Windows computer is slow or freezes when turned on

When your computer starts up, Windows uses a significant amount of the computer’s resources, which may cause the computer to exhibit slowness, freezing, or similar symptoms.  Having Real-Time Protection turned on may contribute to slowness or freezing during startup.  By default, Real-Time protection turns on when Windows starts up.  You can delay when Real-Time Protection starts to free up resources for the Windows startup processes.

If your computer does not meet Malwarebytes for Windows’ minimum requirements, that may cause slowness or freezing during Windows startup.  Refer to the Malwarebytes for Windows Tech specs, to see the minimum requirements.

Delay Real-Time Protection

  1. Open Malwarebytes for Windows Premium.
  2. Click Settings, then click the Protection tab.

  3. Scroll down until you find Startup Options.
  4. Turn on Delay Real-Time Protection when Malwarebytes starts.
  5. Next to Delay protection for, use the drop-down menu to choose how long you want to delay Real-Time Protection.
Start with 15 seconds.  You can increase or decrease this number as needed.

  6. Restart your computer.

If your computer continues to take a significant amount of time to start, increase the delay time you chose in step 5.
