Browser vs. address bar — what’s the difference?

The Browser / The Address Bar (URL)
The browser is the TV you watch. The address bar is where you type in the address of the exact page you want to see.
Picture It
You change TV channels by pressing a button on a remote control. In a browser, you type a website’s address into the address bar at the top of the window. Typing the address and pressing Enter works just like pressing the channel button — it takes you straight to the exact page you want.
How It Works
- Open the browser, the app you use to visit websites.
- Look at the top of the window for a long, empty box. That’s the address bar.
- Type a website’s address there, like precisionpconline.com.
- Press Enter. The website appears, the same way pressing a channel button takes you to an exact show.
If that top bar shows something odd or scary, don’t click anything on the page. Just close the window.
There Are No Dumb Questions
Are Google and the browser the same thing?
No. The browser is the TV. Google is a helper that finds the right address for you when you don’t know it.
What if I don’t know the address?
Type what you’re looking for into that same box. A helper called a search engine, such as Google, will suggest the right address.
Look at the top of your browser window. That skinny box is the address bar.
